Dr.
Reichler's Bio
301M Spring 2010
Homework #2 due in class on M 2/22
In class we discussed the lack of a biological definition of race. There is no genetic evidence that can be used to define someone's origin. Yet, race still dominates many facets of life in the U.S. and in the rest of the world. Is race a useful concept? Does defining and demarcating people by race help us? If so, how? Give specific examples of how the concept of race has been helpful. If not, why not? And if not, how can we change this tendancy to divide people into races? What, if anything, would you use in place of race? Support your reasons with facts and/or references.
