8) What is the main difference between the first stage of primary and
secondary succession?
In primary succession there are very
few resources except for space. Secondary succession often has
many resources present.
9) Why was the rapidity of changes in cancer rates after the Chernobyl
accident surprising?
Cancer requires several mutations to
occur in the same cell, and that usually takes many years.
10) Are non-humans in the Chernobyl exclusion zone better off since the
accident?
Yes and no. The absence of
humans has freed resources for the non-humans, but those resources are
contaminated with radiation.
